Chapter 3- He Walked
He walked. He didn’t know how long the road was, but he walked. All he could see in the horizon was horizon, and towards that horizon, he walked. He walked triumphantly. His triumph was putting one foot in front of the other, and because of this triumph, he walked.
He walked knowing exactly where he wanted to go. He knew if he walked he would get there eventually. Many things were unsure: the journey’s length, the obstacles to be met along the way, his own capacity to overcome these challenges. All he knew was the only way to get there was to walk along this road, and so, determined, he walked.
He walked even though walking was a struggle. His muscles tightened as he walked. The more he walked, the more tired he became. He wondered if he could walk the distance, if he had what it took. Yet despite his doubts he walked. He walked with faith that if he put his head down and walked; he would get there, eventually.
As he walked on, he saw many things by the roadside. People called out to him smilingly as he walked. Some people laughed at him and poked fun at how he walked. Other people walked beside him as well. Some of them fell by the way-side; others jumped off the road and ran through the bushes. Sometimes the sun was bright and pleasant; other times thunderous rain pounded him as he walked. The scene was never ever the same as he walked; the only thing left unchanged was he himself, as he walked…..
One day, in the distance, it appeared to him. The more he walked, the closer it became. His heart now began to race as he walked. He walked now more full of purpose than ever. The days now began to race by him as he walked, and the faster they went by, the faster he walked.
He dreamt as he walked. In his dreams, he walked until he reached his destination. He stopped for a minute, wallowed in his victory; then he picked up his trophy, turned towards the sunset, and towards it, he walked....
He walked now knowing nothing of the past, nothing of the future. All he knew was that he walked. He was was ready to walk as long as he could walk, and he would keep on walking as long as he needed to walk. His life was now all about walking. And as his life went on, he walked..
