Dear Professor

i love to write freely, without constraints or rules...just let whatever is on my mind flow through fingers and spew onto paper, or a keyboard...needless to say, the teacher of my poetry class giving me specific guidelines on a poem to be written for this week didn't win him my "prof of the week" award....i really struggled with this assignment...writing a poem in the first person, addressing someone, starting the poem with "Dear ____" , and making it the letter/ poem i am forbidden to write....but its strange how your struggles can actually inspire your creativity...

so assuming that its forbidden to lambaste your professors and the work they assign you, here's what i came up with at the eleventh hour...i think its not bad:

Dear Professor - by Mattieu Dominic

Dear Professor,

The daunting numbness of my mind
Coagulates my neural slime;
I hate the rules that you define,
The cursed tasks that you assign.
You Stifled my innate design
And forged a mountain I can't climb;
The passion Stolen from sublime
Words,
Made dead by your deadline.
A mind, once vivid, now benign;
A mess of words I can't combine...
Committor of such heinous crime
Of taking freely flowing rhyme,
And fastening the cruel confine
Of your convoluted guideline.....

....you killed a poet in his prime....

sincerely,
your student
